One thing that we can say for sure about our feline friends? They are all unique. Some kitties are absolutely fearless, and see themselves as tiny lions. Others fall on the other end of the spectrum, and are very timid and shy. If your kitty is in that latter category, read on! AYork, PA vet discusses caring for a timid kitty below.

Provide Fun Toys

Did you know that nailing a tricky pounce can actually boost Fluffy’s kitty confidence? Plus, playing will give her a chance to take her frustration out on something. This can be quite cathartic. Offer your furry pal lots of toys, and take time to play with her every day.

Fluffy’s Rules

One of the biggest mistakes you can make with your feline buddy is to force attention on her. If Fluffy wants to stay on the other side of the room, just let her be. You can still talk to her, which will help her feel loved and safe.

Hiding Spots

Scaredy-cats often like to hide, as they feel safer in small spaces. Chances are, Fluffy will probably appreciate having lots of nooks and crannies she can safely retreat to. Set out boxes and paper grocery bags (without handles) for her. Enclosed beds and cat condos are also good options.

Medical Care

If you’ve just adopted your furry friend, one of the first things you would want to do would be to bring her to the vet. There’s always a chance that a medical issue could be causing Fluffy to act nervous and withdrawn.

Other Pets

Many of our feline pals get along just fine with each other and/or with dogs. However, this isn’t always the case. If other pets are bullying Fluffy, you’ll need to address the issue. Jealousy is often an issue with cats. Make sure your furry friends don’t have to fight for your attention or bicker over litterboxes or beds.

TLC

Cats all have their own unique personalities. Fluffy might just be a bit shy. That’s purrfectly fine! As long as she’s healthy and safe, she may be quite content just watching things from her favorite hiding spot. Your feline friend may also surprise you by showing affection when you least expect it.
